Yahoo Groups - a flexible and popular free hosting service. Lists can be moderated or unmoderated, are searchable, and disk space is provided for the community to share files to download.

Topica - allows importation of email addresses. It also archives past publications of your newsletters. A good all-purpose free newsletter mailing list hosting service.

Zinester - offers a free hosting service for up to 100,000 email addresses. It isn't unlimited, but 100K addresses is a significantly large list. Multi-featured and highly functional, Zinester is a good option for no money.

Your Mailing List Provider - a limited version of their paid hosting service is free. It has some pretty good features, but the limit to 1000 names for the free service significantly limits its attractiveness as a free service.
